Marching Festival Details

General Info

The Sounds of the Springs Marching Band Festival is hosted by the Stanhope Elmore High School Band and the Parents in Tune Band Boosters.

Our goal is to provide marching bands, their directors, staff, chaperones, parents a relaxed performance environment while giving the highest quality adjucation and comments to elevate each band's performance.

Judging

We use an Olympic judging system. There are five band judges who all judge music, marching, and general effects. Each judge works on a 100-point scale. The highest and lowest scores will be dropped, and the remaining three scores will be averaged for your band’s final score. Of the 100 points, music will count 50%, marching will count 30%, and general effect will count 20%. We also use a full panel of auxiliary judges. We use a 20-point scoring bracket for ratings except in Class 1A. Point requirements for each scoring division (superior, excellent, etc.) for Class 1A are 5 points lower than the other classes (i.e., Classes 2A, 3A & 4A must score at least 80 to make a superior. Class 1A must score at least 75 to make superior.)

Band Classification

There are four levels of band classification based on the number of winds on the field.

The classes are:

Class A 1-20 winds

Class AA 21-50 winds

Class AAA 51-75 winds

Class AAAA 76+ winds
